Q: What is the importance of understanding your client?

A: Well, if you don’t understand your client, it makes it much harder to understand the project. Usually when I take on a project, I make sure to understand the goal of it and to understand the client.

Q: Why is it important to communicate with your client?

A: If we don’t communicate ideas, we cannot successfully create a design. Otherwise it is very easy for things to go wrong.

Q: Is working with the team easier or harder, and why?

A: With the team it is much easier because we can split up the task to reach our goal faster .

Q: Do tasks get done faster with a team?

A: Yes because we are all able to do different parts of the project, which will make up the whole. And thus, getting done faster.

Q: What are some tips to manage a project effectively?

A: Definitely make sure the aim is clear and your team members understand their jobs. Also make sure you use your time wisely.

Q: What is an example of bad management?

A: One example of bad management is when I was not specific with the goal/project and so my team could not take the proper steps to achieving our goals. 

Q: Is copyright a problem in the digital world?

A: Yes, many people use other people’s creations and take credit for something they did not create. It also impacts the one they stole from because they are not receiving the credit and praise they deserve.

Q: How to deal with copyright?

A: I create all my own images and I get permission to use from the original creator.

I learned from this interview that working in the design industry is more complicated than it seems. Not only do they have to worry about working with a client, they also have to worry about if they are successfully managing their project to lead it to success. The importance of communication is very impactful. If even one person in a team does not properly communicate with the other members, the finished product can be pushed back by weeks.

I am very glad I asked Mr. O’hanlon because I was able to gain insight on how to be an effective manager. How he manages his time to ensure that the project will be done when promised, and to make sure that he isn’t overwhelmed.
